We are now more than one-third of the way through the session. Finance subcommittees have closed out and
budgets are being set for departments and projects statewide. These budget cuts, although necessary, are and
will be painful until we adopt a fiscal plan. For this reason, I support and have co-sponsored HB 493,
requiring the State to adopt and annually revise a long-term fiscal plan budgeting for the next five years.
As we continue to work towards financial stability, I am also concerned with the quality of public safety in
Alaska and will continue to work hard to pass measures like HB 91, revising the additional five years of service
currently required for retired peace officers.
UPCOMING MEETINGS
