This coming Monday, the Governor will introduce a new Petroleum Production Tax bill for the Legislature to take action on. I'm sure you all know that the PPT bill that we researched, discussed, and debated for several months, failed to pass in the final hours of the session.
I encouraged the Governor to bring back the PPT bill at this time, and I'm glad he will give us the opportunity to address this legislation along with the gas pipeline contract. Now we can carefully and thoroughly examine the many suggestions that were made in the final days of the session, consider them in light of the proposed gasline contract we have been reviewing, and take the time to judge their merit without the intense pressure that could have hurried the State into an agreement that did not serve Alaskans well.
I'll keep you posted on developments as we continue working on this historic legislation. To see more about the pipeline contract, you can check out the website at: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/gasline/.
Sincerely,
