Prudential Financial has a workshop coming up that I thought students in our community may find useful. Middle school, high school and university students are invited to learn how to plan and organize a one-day civic project by attending a workshop Friday, October 20 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon at the Prudential Centerpoint Building at 3801 Centerpoint Drive in Anchorage. The workshop is in time for the National Kids Care Week October 22-28, and National Make A Difference Day, Saturday, October 28. The workshop is sponsored by Friends of the Alaska Points of Light Youth Leadership Program. In addition, October 31 is the deadline for 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognize middle and high school students nationally for volunteer community service. Local Honorees are selected at participating schools and organizations in November, and from these winners, two State Honorees are chosen in each state. State Honorees receive awards of $1,000 and all-expenses-paid trips to Washington, D.C. Applications must be postmarked by October 31, 2006 to local school principals or to one of the officially designated local organizations (Girl Scouts, 4-H, Red Cross and Volunteer Centers).
