It is time for the start of another legislative session. Members of the House were sworn in on January 10, 2005 thus signaling the official beginning of the 24th Alaska Legislative Session.
This session the Legislature welcomes nine new members: Jim Elkins (R-Ketchikan), Alberta Gardner (D-Anchorage), Mike Kelly (R-Fairbanks), Gabrielle LeDoux (R-Kodiak), Mark Neuman (R-Big Lake), Kurt Olson (R-Soldotna), Jay Ramras (R-Fairbanks), Woodie Salmon (D-Beaver), and Bill Thomas (R-Haines).
I am especially looking forward to working with fellow Interior members, newly elected Representatives Mike Kelly and Jay Ramras. The Fairbanks North Star Borough is home to all of us and issues that effect Interior Alaska will be of particular importance.
I am happy to report that this is my seventh year in the Alaska State Legislature and third year as House Majority Leader. As House Majority Leader I have the privilege of working not only with the House Leadership but also with the Senate Leadership and with the Governor. Being the Majority Leader has given me a broader perspective of the state but my focus is still on the people in the North Pole area and on what is good for all of my constituents in District 11.
In order to give my constituents the most current and useful information I would appreciate any input on topics that interest you. Please contact my office by any of the methods listed. My office staff and I are looking forward to yet another challenging legislative session.
To better assist my constituents I will have three staff members this session: Rynnieva Moss is my Majority Aide. As Majority Aide she will assist me with leadership responsibilities and will handle much of my personal legislation. Rynnieva has worked with me for six years and continues to be an asset to my office. Willow Seay will be handling my scripts for the House floor, and excused absences for the House members. She will also be my Judiciary Committee Aide. This is the third year Willow has worked in my office. Karen Lidster will be handling constituent issues, and, statewide correspondence. This is the second legislative session that I have been privileged to have Karen working in my office.
Please feel free to contact my office. My toll free (in Alaska) telephone number is 1-877465-3719. My fax number is 907-465-3258. If in the Juneau area please stop by my office in the Capitol Building, Room 204. Check out my website www.johncoghill.com and use my feedback form as another method to contact my staff and I.
