"We need to be able to observe first hand this historic event that could shape the future of Alaska, the budget process, and the Permanent Fund."
- Rep. Fate
(Juneau) - Representative Hugh "Bud" Fate will take a short break from his duties in the Capitol City to return home and attend the Conference of Alaskans, February 10-12. The Conference, organized after the State of the State Speech by Governor Frank Murkowski, has generated a lot of interest among legislators.
"We need to be able to observe first hand this historic event that could shape the future of Alaska, the budget process, and the Permanent Fund," Fate said. "I look forward to hearing the ideas that will be presented during the meetings, as that first hand knowledge will give me additional insight when the issues come before the House Finance Committee."
"The Conference has four very tough issues to deal with in a very short period of time," according to Fate. "What is ultimately decided during their session will come back to be considered by the legislature. Attending the Conference is the best way to insure I will know what was discussed, and if consensus was obtained in arriving at those conclusions."
