"The bill now moves to it's final Committee assignment in Judiciary before moving to the floor."
- Rep. Fate
(Juneau) - Alaska's No-Call list is another step closer to becoming law as HB 15, sponsored by Representative Hugh Fate (R-Fairbanks) passed from the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee today. The bill was amended during today's discussion with changes made to a section regarding telephone solicitation of magazines.
Senator Ralph Seekins (R-Fairbanks) proposed changes that require solicitors to include a written disclosure to the buyer about cancellation and refund policies. No other part of the bill was changed.
HB 15 was originally introduced last year with the intent of silencing residence phones from telemarketers who usually call during dinner or the evening hours. The bill was held when federal legislation with the same objective passed Congress. It was agreed that HB 15 would become the vehicle to implement the federal language into state law. It gives the Department of Law the ability to enforce the federal legislation and regulation within the state.
The bill now moves to it's final Committee assignment in Judiciary before moving to the floor.
