"Natural resources, information management and people resources are my priorities for the upcoming legislative session."
- Speaker Kott
(EAGLE RIVER) - "Resources, Resources, Resources," was the message delivered by House Speaker Pete Kott (R-Eagle River) at the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Kott and the local delegation presented their legislative priorities to a full house at the North Slope Restaurant Wednesday afternoon.
"Natural resources, information management and people resources are my priorities for the upcoming legislative session," Kott told the group. He and fellow lawmakers spoke to the local business people about legislation they are pursuing and the challenges facing the legislature this year.
Representative Mike Hawker (R-Anchorage), is prepared for an "extraordinarily challenging session," and said that while no one will ever agree 100% on a fiscal plan, the legislature will "work together for a plan that all Alaskans can support."
Representative Nancy Dahlstrom, (R-Anchorage), in her speech, praised fellow legislator Bill Stoltze, (R-Chugiak) for his recent recognition by the National Rifle Association (NRA). Stoltze received the NRA's Defender of Freedom Award for his work to protect 2nd Amendment rights.
In addition to Speaker Kott and Representatives Dahlstrom, Stoltze and Hawker, the event was attended by Senator Fred Dyson (R-Eagle River), Senator Scott Ogan (R-Palmer), and Lauren Wickersham with Senator Con Bunde's office (R-Anchorage).
