"The conditions speak for themselves. Each member of the caucus agrees to the rules of the caucus prior to session. Sanctions are imposed when the agreed upon rules are violated. We are putting this issue behind us, with a renewed commitment to work together with Representative Lynn."
- Speaker Kott
(JUNEAU) - The House Majority Caucus is making changes to a committee chairmanship and a committee vice-chairmanship as a result of a recent procedural vote. There will be a new Chair of the House Military & Veterans Affairs Committee as well as a new Vice-Chair of the House Labor & Commerce Committee.
The changes are among the conditions recommended by the House Majority caucus in response to Representative Bob Lynn's (R-Anchorage) failure to vote with the caucus on a recent procedural motion. The House voted not to call a special session to override the Governor's veto of a bill concerning the longevity bonus. Representative Lynn will remain a member of the caucus, and will retain his seat on both committees, in addition to his seats on the Resources, State Affairs, and the Joint Armed Services Committees.
Speaker Pete Kott said of the announcement, "The conditions speak for themselves. Each member of the caucus agrees to the rules of the caucus prior to session. Sanctions are imposed when the agreed upon rules are violated. We are putting this issue behind us, with a renewed commitment to work together with Representative Lynn."
"At issue was the care of Alaska's seniors, something that many of us, including Representative Lynn, feel very passionate about. We as a caucus are excited about the senior care program recently introduced by the Governor. We believe this program has great potential to be a more comprehensive and inclusive one, which will provide fair service to those who need the assistance most. We look forward to a healthy debate on the issue."
The changes will become final on Tuesday, January 20th following a meeting of the Committee on Committees.
