Notes:
While a significant portion of the NWT population is aboriginal (close to 50%), Alaska has by far the highest aboriginal population of the 4 regions. In 1996 Alaska had close to 100,000 aboriginal residents, almost 5 times as many as the NWT. Of the 3 Canadian territories, the NWT has the largest aboriginal population.
