The next section looks at some economic trends in the NWT and Alaska. It starts with unemployment rates. Here we can see that Alaska has outperformed northern Canada. Its unemployment rate of under 8% is the lowest of any territory. Of the Canadian territories, the NWT has the lowest unemployment rate (around 14%). However, this is higher significantly higher than the Canadian average of 8%.
