Legislative Update 08-08-02: Community Burglery Alert

I received the following notice from the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, and am passing it on to you. I encourage you to follow the advice and to pass this information on to your neighbors.

The Anchorage Police Department needs your help!

Area 1 (up Eagle River Valley) has experienced a rash of burglaries in recent weeks. The hours seem to be concentrated between 8 - 5 PM. Please keep a watchful eye and report ALL suspicious vehicles and activities in your area. Call 786-8500 or 786-8900.

Some safety tips:

Keep all windows closed & locked - regardless of temperature.
Keep all ladders locked up & inside the structure.
Do not store any gas cans outside.

Note that "doggie" doors are being used for access to houses.

If you're out walking, carry your cell phone. Don't hesitate to call on suspicious activity - better safe than sorry!

Area 2 (Chugiak area) has a slightly different profile.

There, they are kicking in doors. Items most likely to be stolen are guns, laptop computers, DVD machines, etc. Please keep note of your serial numbers in case you are a victim. It will help in returning your property once the thieves are apprehended.
