Legislative Update 12-23-02
Dear Neighbors: I hope you are enjoying your preparations for the holiday season and looking forward to the New Year. I have three pieces of information that I think will be helpful to many of you. Holiday Break Visitor Industry Job Fair: The Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce sent the following information about a Summer Job Fair for Alaskan students. The Holiday Break Visitor Industry JOB FAIR will take place Friday, January 3rd - 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University Center, Anchorage, Alaska, 3600 Old Seward Highway. This is a great opportunity for student on holiday break from school to line up that summer job. Alaska’s top visitor industry employer will be on hand to give out applications and set up interviews for fun and rewarding summer jobs! For more information call Kelly Bender at 877-258-6877 or Kathleen Ashton at 907-550-7768. This is an equal opportunity program; auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities. Christmas Tree Recycling: Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR), Carrs, and the Municipality of Anchorage are sponsoring the Christmas Tree Recycling Program again this year from December 27 to January 19th. Just drop your tree off at any Carrs store in Anchorage or Eagle River; it will be recycled at no charge. The trees will be processed into chips that will be available to government entities and non-profits. If you cannot drop your tree off, Boy Scout Troops 168 & 286 will pick-up your tree for a small donation. Just call 868-5058. Please make sure your tree is bare -- no plastic bags, no ornaments, no lights, no tree stands! Tinsel is the only thing that can be left on the tree. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Fisher, Executive Director of Alaskans for Litter Prevention & Recycling at 274-3266 or alpar@gci.net. An Invitation From Representative Kevin Meyer: Finally, if you live within the area bordered by Lake Otis east to Hillside Drive and from Dowling Road south to O’Malley Road, I regret that I will no longer be your legislator due to redistricting. I will be representing Senate District P, which does not include that area. However, the very able and responsive Representative Kevin Meyer will be your new representative. He has asked me to let you know that he will also be sending out legislative update e-mails. If you would like to sign up to receive them, please e-mail him at Please do contact me if you need anything. While my office is in a state of flux preparing to move to Juneau, I will return your call or e-mail as soon as possible. I wish you a healthy, happy, and safe holiday.
