Tolerance Commission to Visit Kodiak
(KODIAK) -- The Tolerance Commission invites Kodiak Island residents to share their ideas with the Commission, Thursday August 2, 2001 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kodiak Senior Center, 302 Erskine Ave. Senator Alan Austerman (R-Kodiak/Southeast Islands) and Representative Gary Stevens (R-Kodiak) encourage residents to attend the public hearing. The 14 member Commission, created by Gov. Tony Knowles in May, is comprised of Alaska Native, ethnic, and religious leaders. The commission is holding a series of meetings statewide to hear Alaskans' concerns about all forms of discrimination, and to prepare a report with recommendations for change to the governor by November 30, 2001. The goal of the Tolerance Commission is a more tolerant Alaska that celebrates our diversity of people and cultures.
