(ANCHORAGE) - "We only give this award, when someone truly stands out above the rest," said Tanya Masley, director of special events for HOPE Community Resources about the "Outstanding Legislative Support Award" given to Sen. Dave Donley, (R-Anchorage) at a luncheon Thursday.

HOPE Community Resources supports over 700 individuals and families with developmental disabilities by providing residential settings or in-home support to help these Alaskans become a more integrated part of our community. A mission Steve Lesko, HOPE's executive director says Donley has been making a remarkable difference in for "countless years."

"Through his leadership and determination to significantly improve the quality of life for our families who experience disabilities, he [Donley] has given us a legacy of compassion, caring and sense of the future - one that includes all Alaskan families," Lesko said in a speech at the awards presentation.

Lesko went on to say that this is only the eighth time in 35 years that HOPE has awarded an Outstanding Legislative Support Award. Calling Donley a "true hero in a time of political cynicism" Lesko says Donley has made a real difference in his community and state.

The veteran Anchorage Senator has been a supporter of HOPE Community Resources, both in his personal as well as public life. He has championed numerous funding requests in the legislature to assist HOPE in providing and delivering their much needed services to Alaska's developmentally disabled.

"I am honored to be in a position to help such a tremendous charity, which provides such an extraordinary public service for all Alaskans," Donley said following the luncheon.
