Kott Veterans' Highway Bill Passes House For Immediate Release: February 6, 2001 Contact: Representative Pete Kott at (907) 465-3777 (JUNEAU) -- A bill sponsored by Rep. Pete Kott (R-Eagle River) designating a major thoroughfare as the Eagle River Veterans' Memorial Highway is in the Senate today after being passed unanimously by the House. "The general public, and more importantly future generations must not forget their veterans," said Kott, a retired U.S. Air Force captain with 22 years of service. "Far too often our citizens take for granted the freedoms all Americans enjoy." House Bill 79 adds a concurrent designation to the portion of Eagle River Loop Road between Eagle River Road and the Anchorage Regional Landfill as the Eagle River Veterans' Memorial Highway. "Designating the portion of Eagle River Loop Road to honor veterans is just one way that we can recognize those who served in the armed services of this great country," Kott said. "By honoring the men and women who served and died, we preserve their memory and thus their service and sacrifice." HB 79 passed the House Monday, and was referred to the Senate, where it has been referred to the Senate Transportation Committee for consideration. # # # | Rep. Kott's Page | | Top |
