(JUNEAU) - Rep. Scott Ogan (R-Palmer) remained in critical condition today at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, but showed slight improvement in his heart function four days after suffering a heart attack at his home.

According to Ogan's friend and legislative chief of staff, Linda Hay, while physicians at Providence are using medical technology to help ease the burden on Ogan's heart and help him rest, he is not dependent on "life support" equipment for survival.

Ogan, 49, remains in Providence's coronary care unit, where doctors continued to monitor his condition before deciding in the next few days on the most appropriate course of treatment.

Members of the Ogan family continued to express their appreciation to the outpouring of concern, and renew their request that those interested in his condition refrain from inundating the family home or the hospital with phone calls. Those wanting to send letters or cards may send them to: Rep. Scott Ogan, State Capitol, Juneau, AK 99801-1182.

Providence hospital staff and Ogan's legislative staff have asked those seeking updated reports on Ogan's medical condition to call House Majority Press Secretary Dan Saddler at (907) 465-3804.

Ogan was in Palmer to accept the Alaska Outdoor Council's "Legislator of the Year" award when he experienced the heart attack on Saturday, and he was taken first by ambulance to Palmer's Valley Hospital, then by medical helicopter to Providence.
