Phillips Introduces Legislative Move Bill
(JUNEAU)- Sen. Randy Phillips (R-Eagle River) will introduce Senate Bill 303 next week, to move the legislative session from Juneau to the Anchorage/Matanuska-Susitna area by the start of the 2005 legislative session. Phillips' bill will mirror the citizens' initiative to put the legislative move back on the 2002 general election ballot. "This bill works in conjunction with the efforts of those Alaskans who believe that government should be accessible to all Alaskans," said Phillips. Phillips has been a long-time supporter of moving the legislative session to a more accessible location for all the citizens of Alaska. He feels that moving the Legislature to the Anchorage/Mat-Su area will bring the Legislature closer to the majority of the state's residents. Phillips also said the move would save the people and the state money in the long run while providing Alaskans easier access to their elected officials. "The foundation of good government is the citizens' ability to access their representative lawmakers," Phillips said. "But when your lawmakers are not accessible to the vast majority of the population that disrupts that very foundation of representative government." # # # Attachments:
