Phillips Not To Run For New Senate Seat
(Eagle River) – Sen. Randy Phillips (R-Eagle River) announced Wednesday he is withdrawing his candidacy for the newly formed Senate District P. The announcement came at a Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Eagle River. Phillips said it was a difficult decision not to seek re-election to a job serving people, friends and neighbors he loves, but he said it is time to pursue other interests including concentrating more on his marketing business. "I am confident that I would provide excellent representation for the people of the new district," said Phillips. "Unfortunately, the redistricting process has cut me off from the great people of Eagle River and Northeast Anchorage, which was the heart and soul of the constituency I have been privileged to represent in the legislature for the past 26 years." First elected to the State House in 1976, Phillips has continually served his community and state in Juneau. In 1994 he was elected to the Senate where he has served ever since. At 26 years Randy Phillips has the distinction of being one of the longest serving legislators in Alaska history. Phillips has not closed the door for a possible run for office in the future. He also says he will finish off this last term serving the people of his district like it was still his first. # # # Attachments:
