''Friends of the Earth'' Press Release
(JUNEAU) - Senator Robin Taylor (R - Wrangell), on Friday, issued a retraction of a March 4, 2002 press release, which he was informed had "damaged" the good name and reputation of "Friends of the Earth." Friends of the Earth is a respected non-profit organization, which was mistakenly labeled an "eco-terrorist group" in the release. "I want to state as clearly as possible that inclusion of Friends of the Earth in that release was a mistake," said Taylor. "Based on clarified reports I do not believe they are now nor do I believe they have been in the past an eco-terrorist group." To the contrary, Friends of the Earth hold themselves out to be a leader in promoting peaceful approaches to resolving issues related to environmental protection. Taylor says, based on information provided by Friends of the Earth, he commends this organization for the peaceful stance it has taken and encourages other groups to follow. On the record Friday, Taylor formally retracted the comment about Friends of the Earth that was circulated from his press office in the March 4 release. "I now know that statement was untrue and should not have been made," said Taylor. "For this mistake I offer my deepest apology to Friends of the Earth for any damage this comment may have caused its staff, board, supporters and their 'millions' of members around the world." # # # Attachments:
