Torgerson Announces Joint Committee Schedule for Homer Annexation
(JUNEAU) -- Senator John Torgerson announced today the schedule for the Homer Annexation meetings. "In the interests of expediting this matter, the Senate and House Community and Regional Affairs Committees will jointly hear the presentation of the Local Boundary Commission (LBC) on Thursday, February 7 at 8am" said Torgerson who chairs the Senate Committee. "Representative Drew Scalzi sits on the House C&RA Committee and it is very appropriate that we jointly review this matter", he commented. According to Torgerson, he expects that most of the Thursday meeting will be taken up with questions and answers between the committee members and the members of the LBC. "I expect that there will be questions by the committee members and I want to make certain that the members have every opportunity to explore this issue" he said. He has also set aside a specific time for public testimony on Saturday, February 9 starting at 9am. "It's important to get public testimony on a time that is more convenient for the public and so I have set aside Saturday to hear the testimony; we will listen until everyone has had the opportunity to speak", Torgerson said. He continued by noting "It's not certain at this point when the City of Homer desires to speak to the committees, but I asked them last Wednesday to let me know their preference as soon as possible so I can schedule that as well". The schedule also includes a Tuesday, February 12 meeting at 8am for the committees. "I want to make sure that we are prepared in case we need to meet again", Torgerson explained. Attachments:
