Gas Pipeline Committee to Hold Hearings in Kenai
(KENAI) -- The Joint Committee on Natural Gas Pipelines, chaired by Sen. John Torgerson (R-Kasilof), will hold public hearings in Kenai on Nov. 7 and 8. The purpose of these hearings will be to receive updates from various government agencies and to discuss issues concerning supply and demand of Cook Inlet gas. On Wednesday morning the committee will receive information on the status of legislation in Washington D.C. that will affect construction of a pipeline. Those scheduled to testify include John Katz, Director of State/Federal Relations and Special Counsel to the Governor; and C.J. Zane, Legislative Advisor with Dyer, Ellis and Joseph. In the afternoon the committee will focus on the financial issues surrounding the different natural gas pipeline proposals. Roger Marks, an Alaska Department of Revenue economist will be presenting various route models to the committee and Ed Small, an economist with Cambridge Energy Research Associates will give an update on the natural gas market. Larry Persily, deputy commissioner of the Department of Revenue will then provide a status report on the Department's analysis of state ownership in the pipeline. Bill Britt, state gas pipeline coordinator and John Goll, regional director of U.S. Minerals Management Service will testify on their offices' activities and Cook Inlet gas reserves. On Thursday the committee will meet with Bill Van Dyke, Tim Ryherd and Wil Nebesky of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Oil and Gas Division to discuss Cook Inlet natural gas reserves, usage and demand. Following testimony from the department, the committee will hear from representatives of private natural gas interests in the Cook Inlet and Southcentral. Chris Tworek, vice president of Agrium Inc.; George Findling and Scott Jepsen, of Phillips Alaska, Inc.; Dan Thomas, of UNOCAL Alaska; Scott Heyworth, Chair of Citizens Initiative for the All-Alaskan Pipeline; and John Ellwood, President of Foothills Pipe Lines, Ltd. will all make presentations to the committee. In the afternoon, the committee will hear presentations from Richard Peterson, President/CEO, ANGTL Co.; Tony Izzo, President, ENSTAR Natural Gas Company and Mark Sexton, President/CEO of Evergreen Resources. Beginning at 2:30 p.m., Senator Torgerson will open the committee for public testimony. Those wishing to testify are asked to limit their comments to three minutes so that as many as possible will have a chance to speak. The hearings will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, 11471 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai. Attachments:
