Senate Designates March as Sobriety Awareness Month For Immediate Release: February 8, 2001 Contact: Senator Jerry Ward at (907) 465-4940 (JUNEAU) -- The Alaska Senate unanimously passed a resolution that designates March, 2001 as Sobriety Awareness month. Senate Concurrent Resolution 2, sponsored by Senator Jerry Ward (R-Kenai), was drafted in support of the Alaska Native Federation's Sobriety Movement. Designating March, 2001 as Sobriety Awareness Month increases the publics appreciation for the problems caused by substance abuse and encourages Alaskans who choose sobriety. "The devastating effects of alcohol, drugs and inhalants on the citizens of Alaska can't even begin to be measured," said Ward. "Families and homes are being destroyed by substance abuse on a daily basis. Sobriety Awareness Month is important because it honors those people who make the choice to embrace a sober lifestyle." # # # Attachments:
