Senate Passes Sobriety Resolution
(JUNEAU) - The Republican led Senate on Monday passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 22, which will officially mark March 2002 as "Sobriety Awareness Month." SCR 22 passed the senate with a unanimous vote. According to the resolution's prime sponsor, Sen. Jerry Ward (R-Kenai), March has been recognized as "Sobriety Awareness Month," since 1995. "I am certain there is not a person in this state who has not, in some way, been adversely effected by drugs and alcohol," said Ward. "That is why it was my honor and duty to sponsor this piece of legislation. Hopefully with continued recognition, awareness and perseverance we can wipe out drug and alcohol abuse, so some day every month is a sobriety month." The resolution will go next to the House of Representatives. # # # Attachments:
