The undersigned support Alternative E in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the NPR-A Northeast Corner. The NPR-A was originally established as an oil reserve, therefore, all BLM lands in this area should be made available for oil and gas leasing.
Alternatives A through D do not allow access to the critical Barrow Arch, the area with the greatest potential for hydrocarbon discovery. Unless this access is granted, we fear that interest in the upcoming NPR-A lease sale will wane.
We believe that technical and operational advances in the exploration, production, and transportation of hydrocarbons in the arctic, as proven over the last 20 years, will allow operators to meet Alaskans' high standards for the protection of wildlife and habitat.
Alternative E allows for the highest and best use of the NPR-A. Thank you for considering our comments.
