Children's Caucus Seeks Solutions To End Child Sexual Abuse

JUNEAU - The Children's Caucus will meet Wednesday, March 19 to hear from the State Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), the Attorney General's Office and the Juneau Police Department on efforts to end child sexual abuse. The Caucus will be evaluating the working relationship between these three entities and looking for solutions to prevent the high rate of abuse in Alaska.

The meeting will take place in the Butrovich room on the second floor of the state capitol from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Representative Fred Dyson, Chair of the Children's Caucus, will preside over Wednesday's meeting.

Representative Dyson said the Children's Caucus is holding a series of meetings to address child sexual abuse with the intention of determining what the Legislature can do to curb abuse in Alaska.

Last week the children's caucus heard from victims of sexual abuse. Dyson said the forum provided victims an opportunity to discuss stories of abuse in an attempt to bring the problem to the forefront.
