April 24, 1999 Dear Constituents: I have received several public opinion messages on HB 108, which creates a Boating Safety Act in Alaska. I am not in support of this legislation because I feel it is yet another dangling carrot the federal government is waving in front of us. It will generate an estimated $500,000 in federal reimbursements from the marine fuel tax Alaskans pay each year, but it will create yet another intrusion of bureaucracy that will police new boating safety laws and new users fees to fund that bureaucracy. Sincerely,
Representative John Coghill |
