Juneau Update

Published in the Alaska Star March 4, 1999

Work in Juneau is accelarating with our primary emphasis on the state's budget. Our office is working on economic development and child protection issues. In addition, we are pushing the following legislation:

HB 73 Banning "bounty hunters".
HB 34 Making it illegal to not assist or report a child being assaulted.
HB 78 Requires the state to transfer the titles on inoperable vehicles.
HB 103 Prohibiting municipalities from suing firearm manufacturers for the mis-use of their products.
HB 118 Money-back guarantees for high school diplomas.
HB 119 Requiring high schools to accept local adults for instruction.

We are also in the process of drafting bills on charter schools, medical issues, and trying to work with the numicipality on zoning enforcement issues.

We would appreciate working with you on these and other issues. You can get copies of these bills at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office by calling 269-0111 or via the Internet at http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis21.htm.

We are eager to be of assistance to people in our area in dealing with state agencies. If you are having trouble or need help I can be reached by phone, (800) 342-2199 or (907) 465-2199; by mail, State Capitol Building, Room 104, Juneau, AK 99801; or via the Internet, Representative_Fred_Dyson@legis.state.ak.us. You can also send us information via the Public Opinion Messages (POMs) by calling the Legislative Information Office at 269-0111 (TTY 269-0260).
