HOUSE FINANCE SUBCOMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

The budget subcommittee assignments were announced Saturday, February 8, 1997, by the House Finance Committee.

Representative Alan Austerman has been appointed to both the Public Safety and the Community & Regional Affairs subcommittees. Austerman said the subcommittees oversee appropriations to state agencies and will be conducting public hearings on operating appropriations during the month of February.

Representative Austerman stated; "The Majority is committed to reducing the size of government, but at the same time we have to ensure it is a smarter government. We can't slash programs just for the sake of cutting a budget. The subcommittees will be looking at all aspects of the agencies budgets very meticulously."
