WHAT: Day two of meetings for lawmakers from 13 Western states opens with author David Stone who provides the historical context for the centennial anniversary of the Alaskan Gold Rush. Following Stone’s remarks, CSG-WEST Energy and Minerals Committee discusses market impacts of Alaskan natural gas on the lower 48 states. Speaker Gail Phillips will address access across public lands for natural resource extraction. A national energy consultant will review the global warming debate. Western lawmakers serving on CSG’s Smart States Committee will take up Year 2000 computer issues. Afternoon plenary explores why increasing energy costs could depress national economy.
