Letter to the Editor For Immediate Release: September 22, 1998 Contacts: Mary Lou Cooper, Public Relations - CSG-WEST, (206) 932-8843 Dear Editor/News Director: As officers of The Council of State Governments-West, a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization that has served Western legislators for 51 years, we would like to thank the Alaska State Legislature, its staff and the people of Alaska for hosting our 1998 Annual Meeting. Every year we come together to share innovative ideas across state boarders and to share solutions to the common challenges we face as Westerners. As we rotate our meetings around the Western United States, we are struck by the many common ties that bind us together. At the same time, each Western state puts its own stamp on our organization when it brings its own natural and political landscape to the forefront. Thanks to the hard work and planning by our Alaska hosts, Rep. Ramona Barnes and Sen. Tim Kelly, this year's meeting was a resounding success. The support of Alaska legislators, staff and legislative leaders, especially Speaker Gail Phillips and Senate President Mike Miller, is deeply appreciated by their colleagues from other Western states. We are honored to be their guests and privileged to learn more about America's last frontier.
