Western Legislative Workshops

Trade and Water Groups Kick off September 19-22 Anchorage
Meeting of Western Legislators

What: Western state legislators will gather in Anchorage beginning Saturday, September 18, for the1998 Annual Meeting of The Council of State Governments-WEST. Western natural resource issues will be featured throughout the four days to coincide with the centennial commemoration of the Alaska Gold Rush. Saturday events include committee meetings on trade and transportation and Western water. Trade and transportation lawmakers will hear about a new proposal for a States Trade Center in Beijing, China. They will also discuss federal transportation funding and the status of surface transportation networks in the West. Water Policy Committee members will develop a west-wide response to the Western Water Policy Review Advisory Commission’s final report. Lawmakers will talk about the Western Governors’ Association environmental policy positions.
