Juneau – The Senate Wednesday voted unanimously to pass legislation that creates a new specialized license plate that will generate money for the Alaska Children’s Trust – a fund created to make money available to ensure the safety of Alaska’s children.

Senator Dave Donley (R-Anchorage), sponsor of Senate Bill 157, said the special license plates, costing only $100, will give Alaskans an easy way to pitch in and help reduce and prevent child abuse, neglect and family violence in our State. The Children Trust was activated by the Legislature in 1996 with an initial appropriation of six million dollars. Interest from the fund is solely dedicated to improving the lives of children in Alaska.

Donley noted that children trust license plates have been successful in other states.

"Creating the Alaska Children’s Trust License plate allows individuals to voluntarily support a trust fund that will help improve the lives of Alaska’s most needy children," Donley said.
