Dyson Moves to Keep Children Away from Drunks and Drug Abusers
For Immediate Release: January 21, 1998 Contact Rep. Fred Dyson at (907) 465-2199.
(JUNEAU) - Representative Fred Dyson (R-Anchorage) has filed a bill which would make it a crime to endanger the welfare of a child while intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance while caring for the child. House Bill 333 would also outlaw knowlingly taking a child into a place where a controlled substance is being used or illegally possessing a controlled substance while caring for a child.
"This bill addresses the problem of parents or guardians who get drunk or stoned while caring for a child," Dyson said. "These children are not only in danger of abuse, but are also subject to neglect or to fires or other emergencies that can come up."
HB 333 was referred to the House Health, Education, and Social Services Committee.
