Children's Caucus to Hear from Families First Partnership

For Immediate Release: February 22, 1999
Contact: Lisa Torkelson, Aide to Rep. Fred Dyson, at (907) 465-6881.

Juneau -- The Children's Caucus will meet Tuesday, February 23, to hear from the Families First Partnership.

The meeting will take place in the Butrovich room on the second floor of the State Capitol from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Representative Fred Dyson, Chair of the Children's Caucus, will preside over Tuesday's meeting.

According to its mission statement, the Partnership exists: ". . . to help better the lives of families, children and all people who desire a fair government. They do this by working with government agencies to help solve the problems resulting from one-sided information. They are not about who is right or wrong. They are about defining the problems and finding ways to fix them. They are also about fair and equal treatment for state workers, families and most importantly children. Children need healthy families."

Representative Dyson said the Families First Partnership is really getting down to the business of helping kids. "In the best interest of the children, we must use every possible resource to assist in keeping families together," Dyson said.

Families First Partnership is sponsoring a shoe drive in which they will collect shoes for foster children. Also in this drive they are collecting backpacks for the kids to have some place to store their personal belongings.
