House Passes Bill to Define Libraries and Grant Eligibility

Juneau – The Alaska House Wednesday passed House Bill 197, a measure which defines what constitutes a library in the state of Alaska and further defines which libraries may be eligible for public library assistance grants.

"This bill closes a significant loophole in Alaska Statutes," said Representative Fred Dyson (R-Eagle River), who led the floor effort to pass HB 197. "It defines, for the first time, what, exactly, constitutes a public library in Alaska and cleans-up the language in statutes regarding grants from the Library Assistance Grant Fund."

House Bill 197 was sponsored by the House Health, Education, and Social Services Committee, of which Rep. Dyson is a member.
