Judiciary Committee to Discuss Constitutionality of Governor's Subsistence Proposal & Other Issues

Anchorage -- House Judiciary Committee Chair, Representative Joe Green (R-Anchorage), has announced the Committee will meet Tuesday, January 5, 1999, in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of the Anchorage Legislative Information Office, 716 West 4th Avenue. The meeting will open at 9:00 a.m. and is scheduled to adjourn at 3:00 p.m.

The meeting is scheduled to begin with a discussion of the Y2K problem. A progress report on the implementation of the Electronic Monitoring system for prisoners is scheduled to follow, after which the committee will receive updates on the Anchorage 6th Avenue Jail replacement project and the Delta Prison project.

At 1 p.m. the committee is scheduled to discuss the effect on the Governor's subsistence proposal of the recent Alaska Supreme Court decision striking the Prisoners' Rights measure from last November's general election ballot. This meeting will be teleconferenced to selected Legislative Information Offices around the state.
