House Passes Fast Track Supplemental Budget

Time-Sensitive Items Funded

For Immediate Release: March 13, 1998 Contact: Rep. Mark Hanley at (907) 465-4939.

Juneau -- The Alaska House of Representatives Friday passed House Bill 461, popularly known as the Fast Track Supplemental Budget.

"Last year, the Legislature budgeted some $16 and-a-half million for supplemental appropriations. This bill contains approximately $4 million worth of appropriations which are time-sensitive," said Representative Mark Hanley (R-Anchorage), co-chair of the House Finance Committee.

The Governor has submitted his requested Supplemental Spending proposals to the Legislature in the form of House Bill 397. The House Finance Committee took the items in Section One of HB 397, which listed time-sensitive items, and incorporated them into HB 461.

"Perhaps the most time-sensitive item of all is an appropriation for the National Guard Youth Corps Program, which begins another class next week," Hanley said. "This measure also includes appropriations for additional costs of halfway houses and the costs of complying with court settlements affecting the Department of Corrections, as well as several other items which must be funded as soon as possible," Hanley said.
