Senate Approves Alaska Public Building Fund
Money For Deferred Maintenance, Other Costs

For Immediate Release: March 31, 2000

Juneau -- By a 16-1 vote, the Alaska Senate Friday passed House Bill 112, sponsored by Representative Jeannette James. HB 112 establishes the Alaska Public Building Fund, which would be used to help pay for maintenance and other costs of state-owned facilities.

"House Bill 112 establishes the Alaska Public Building Fund as a special account in the general fund to deal with Alaska's enormous problems with maintenance of its public facilities," James said. "Occupants of state-owned buildings would pay "rent" into this fund. The Legislature could appropriate funds from this account to pay operating, maintenance, and other costs of state-owned buildings."

House Bill 112 was unanimously approved by the House last year.
