Senate Supports House and Permits LPNs to Provide Proof of Disability
For Immediate Release: April 13, 1999 Juneau -- The Alaska Senate Tuesday unanimously approved House Bill 2, which would allow Licensed Nurse Practitioners to provide proof of disability for persons eligible to receive specially designed license plates. Currently, only licensed physicians are authorized to provide proof of disability. "All across Alaska, there are patients on fixed incomes who cannot readily afford to visit a doctor, said Representative Jeannette James (R-North pole), sponsor of HB 2. "Often we find, especially in smaller communities, that a Licensed Nurse Practitioner is the only medical person available. This bill would provide much needed flexibility as well as help those Alaskans who can most use the help," James said. |
