Senate Approves Platting Authority for DNR
Unorganized Areas Now Subject to Standardization
For Immediate Release April 23, 1998 Contact: Rep. Jeannette James at (907) 465-3743.
Juneau The Alaska Senate Thursday joined the House of Representatives in approving House Bill 17, which brings all the unorganized boroughs of the State under the purview of the Department of Natural Resources for purposes of platting real estate. The vote in the Senate was 18-0.
"This issue has been in the Legislative process for several sessions and this final version has been crafted to the point that it has the support of the DNR, surveyors, and all impacted classes of people," said Representative Jeannette James (R-North Pole), sponsor of HB 17. "The bill standardizes platting procedures in unorganized boroughs, mainly so that the practice of creating and selling landlocked subdivisions which have no access is stopped," James said.
HB 17, also cleans-up definition problems by defining the word "subdivision" so that all agencies use the same terminology.
HB 17 now returns to the House for concurrence with Senate changes.
