Alyeska Pipeline Expansion To Bring New Jobs To Fairbanks

For Immediate Release: January 31, 1997 Contact: Rep. Pete Kelly (907) 465-2327

JUNEAU - Representative Pete Kelly (R-Fairbanks) commented Friday on today's announcement by Alyeska Pipeline Corporation that they are expanding operations in the Fairbanks area and plan to create jobs in Fairbanks.

"Alyeska's announcement that they are moving more jobs to Fairbanks, and closer to the pipeline, is great news for Fairbanks," said Representative Pete Kelly. "Alyeska is clearly looking at the business bottom line - and they're finding Fairbanks."

"I strongly support Alyeska and its decision to take another look at doing business in the golden heart of Alaska. I am sure all of Fairbanks will welcome Alyeska personnel," said Kelly.

Rep. Kelly said Alyeska's expansion offers many positives elements for Fairbanks but believes part of Alyeska's decision stems from all Fairbanks has to offer.

"Our school system is excellent. We have a skilled work force and our wide diversity of community activities makes Fairbanks a wonderful place to live and work," said Kelly.

"I have worked hard to send the message that Fairbanks is a great place to do business. I have brought Fairbanks businesses to the table with oil companies and learned that part of the reason that Anchorage gets the lion's share of the oil business is simply because Fairbanks doesn't always know when to ask, whom to ask, or when a bid is coming open," Kelly said.

"Fairbanks businessmen have become more sophisticated and as a result we'll see more business coming here in the future," said Kelly.
