Senate Supports Predator Control in Intensive Game Management Areas

For Immediate Release: March 24, 2000
Contact: Senator Pete Kelly's office at (907) 465-2327.

Juneau -- Thursday, the Alaska Senate passed legislation that would aid the people of Rural Alaska in stemming the crash of moose and caribou populations in their areas.

Senate Bill 267, sponsored by Pete Kelly (R-Fairbanks) would allow hunting predators on the same day a person is airborne only in areas where the Alaska Board of Game has adopted regulations to provide for intensive management of a big game prey population. A valid hunting or trapping license is a permit to take a wolf under the provisions of this subsection, and no other permits would be required.

SB 267 moves to the House for consideration.
