Bill Recognizes Contributions and Encourages Enlistment and Retention
For Immediate Release: March 26, 1999 Juneau -- The Alaska Senate Friday unanimously passed House Bill 80, which establishes a hiring preference for Alaska National Guard members for State classified service positions. "House Bill 80 is a very positive way to encourage Alaskans to enlist in our National Guard and continue to serve as Guard members," said Representative Carl M. Morgan, Jr. (R-Aniak), the sponsor of HB 80. "This hiring preference for Alaska National Guard members recognizes their tremendous contributions to our state." HB 80 allows points to be added to the passing grade of a member of the Alaska National Guard when qualified for classified service under the State of Alaska's merit system examination. To qualify for the preference points, Alaska National Guard members must have served in the Alaska National Guard for eight years. A person may use the preference without limitation when being considered for a position for which persons who are not currently state employees are being considered. HB 80 now returns to the House for concurrence with Senate changes. |
