For Immediate Release: March 18, 1999 Juneau -- Representative Scott Ogan (R-Palmer) has introduced House Bill 144, which clarifies that the Legislature has both physical and economic access to all facilities and programs it funds. "I discovered that there are many places that we send public dollars that do not have to open their books to show how they are spending it," said Ogan. Ogan's measure also grants to legislators reasonable access rights to public facilities. "Basically, this pushes accountability for public expenditures to a higher standard," said Ogan. "Those who obligate public funds should have the right on behalf of the public to see how those funds are being spent." HB 144 will be read across in the House Friday, March 19. |
