Juneau -- Senate Finance Committee Co-Chairs Sean Parnell (District I, South Anchorage) and John Torgerson (District D, Kenai Peninsula) today announced the membership of the Senate budget subcommittees responsible for writing the fiscal year 2000 operating budget.

Subcommittees are assigned to perform the detailed work of budget-writing; reviewing funding requests from agencies, hearing testimony from departmental or related agency staffers, and developing budget recommendations for the full Senate Finance Committee.

"This year we have some hard choices to make about how the state should best use its financial resources," said Senator Parnell. "We're fortunate to have so much experience and talent to draw on for the committees making these choices."

"These committees do the critical work of holding hearings to find places we can reduce the budget, and hold state agencies accountable for results," said Senator Torgerson.
