Juneau -- Friday, the Alaska Senate and House both passed the fast-track supplemental bill, SB 250. The House and Senate approved different versions of SB 250, requiring that the bill be sent to a conference committee to resolve differences in program funding. "This Supplemental Budget represents an effective, workable compromise that funds all the fast-track needs identified by the Administration," said Representative Eldon Mulder (R-Anchorage), Co-Chair of the House Finance Committee. "Significantly, we reached this compromise in a very timely manner and the funding level remains below the total allocation for this fiscal year." According to Senator Sean Parnell (R-Anchorage), Co-Chair of Senate Finance. "This supplemental budget funds essential costs for an avalanche rescue warning system, funds pupil transportation costs for kindergarten through twelfth grade, funds medical costs for the poor and makes sure that the lights don't go out in rural Alaska." SB 250 provides funding for snow removal for highways in the northern region of the state and authorizes funds for the Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement Division to reduce some backlog in child support back pay cases. Just over $9.9 million in general fund spending was authorized in the final version of the bill. |
