Pearce’s Resolution Urges United State’s Congress to Open ANWR

Juneau -- Senator Drue Pearce (R-Anchorage) introduced Senate Joint Resolution 9 Wednesday urging the United States Congress to pass legislation that will open the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska, (ANWR) to oil and gas exploration, development and production.

"It’s important this Legislature get our continued support for opening ANWR on the record quickly," said Senator Pearce, Co-Chair Senate Finance. "Through this resolution, we are once again sending a strong message to our Congressional Delegation that the state of Alaska, and its Legislature, is fully behind their efforts to open ANWR."

"In particular, we want to make it clear to Congress and to President Clinton that we’re not willing to trade ANWR for leasing in the National Petroleum Reserve, Alaska."

"The point is -- we want ANWR open. It’s the right thing to do," said Pearce.
