Anchorage - House Speaker Gail Phillips has announced the appointment of Jerry Ritter as Press Secretary for the House Majority. Ritter, a long-time Anchorage broadcaster, reporter, and commentator, replaces Ken Freeman, who resigned to become Executive Director of the Resource Development Council of Alaska, Inc.
"I'm very pleased that Jerry has decided to come work for us in the House Majority," said Phillips. "He brings a wealth of experience to the job and we're all excited to have him on board."
Ritter, 49, began his career in Alaska at Fort Richardson in 1970, where he became Command Information Officer. Most recently he was News Editor for KFQD Radio in Anchorage, where he also wrote and produced the popular daily commentary "What I Think." He is a former News Director for Anchorage radio stations KENI and KHAR as well as writer and producer of the Alaska Press Club Award-winning commentary for KTUU-TV in Anchorage "Ritter's Parkbench." He also served as Assistant Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Frank Murkowski in Washington, DC.
"Jerry's broad experience working in and with all areas of the media in Alaska and on the national scene," said Phillips. "That means members of the media and the general public should have ready access to the information they want and need from the Legislative Majority.
Ritter and his wife, Barbara, live in Anchorage.
