House Announces Resource Hearings on Subsistence

For Immediate Release: August 25, 1997 Contact: Ken Freeman (907) 258-8164

ANCHORAGE - Alaska House Speaker Gail Phillips Monday announced Legislative hearings on subsistence will be convened by House Resource Committee Co-Chairman Bill Hudson, beginning September 10th in Bethel.

Phillips said the hearing will be scheduled for a full day, and teleconferenced to other sites in the region. Following the Bethel meeting, the Committee will schedule a hearing in Ketchikan on the 12th with regional sites also connected via teleconference.

Following these two locations, the Committee will also conduct hearings on the Kenai Peninsula, in the Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, and Anchorage. Time and places for these four locations will be announced at a later date.

Because of time restrictions due to hunting seasons for both the House and Senate Resource Chairs, the House will begin the hearing process. Joint hearings will follow after the first two conducted by the House. These hearings will run through September 20th.
