Committee Would Study BP - ARCO Merger
Juneau -- The Alaska House of Representatives Tuesday unanimously passed House Concurrent Resolution 12, which establishes a Joint Committee on Mergers to study issues relating to the proposed merger of BP Amoco and Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). "The Federal Trade Commission will begin an investigation of this merger in the near future, making it imperative that the State develop its input within the next few months," said Speaker of the House Brian Porter (R-Anchorage), sponsor of HCR 12. "The committee will closely examine both State and federal laws that influence the acquisition and work to minimize any adverse effects the acquisition may have on Alaska." The primary issues the committee will review include:
The Joint Committee on Mergers will be established upon passage of HCR 12 by the Senate. The committee will meet during and between sessions of the 21st Legislature and will be terminated when the 22nd Legislature convenes in January 2001.
